The “House Critters” Christmas Morning
It was
early when the humans got up, which disturbed the house critters. They all
started to just roll over and go back to sleep, because they had been up late
last night and maybe eaten a bit too much. Then it hit them, this was Christmas
day!
Henrietta
Bobbie Bunny, Ducky Duck, Rainy Reindeer, Blue Booby, and Big Bunny watched the
two humans go into the antique room where the big green tree with all the
decorations was now glowing because all its’ lights were on. Barb brought a box
from the back room and they both started stuffing items into big stockings that
were decorated and had names on them. There already were many wrapped boxes and
bags that had tags with names on them under the tree. The critters had all
looked at them and found some with their names on them, which made them very
happy. They wondered about the stockings, as they had not seen any with their
names on them. Then Bob came into the room with a very big stocking with all
the critters first name on it in age order. Henrietta was first on the list as
she was the oldest house critter. Barb had a special bag she got from a high shelf
in the closet of the computer room, where the critters could not get into it. She
dumped all this stuff into the critters’ stocking. Ducky was so excited and
making so much noise that they did not hear the DeBolts come in.
Every
Christmas morning one of Jackie’s presents was Bob making breakfast for them.
There were nine humans so Bob normally scrambled three dozen eggs along with
cooking two dozen sausages and toasting two dozen English muffins. All the
muffins took a while to get toasted so they had to be started as soon as the
DeBolts came into the house and a cup of coffee was put in front of them. The
critters really liked breakfast, but on this morning they were really more
interested in gifts.
Breakfast
was over and all the humans gathered in the living room for stockings to be
handed out by the elf. The DeBolts actual present
exchange had happened on X-Mas eve. Yes, actually a
small person with an elf hat and elfish grin, but sadly this one did not come
from the North Pole it was Bob’s sister Deb. The first item of business with
the stockings was which order would the elf decided on, this year she went with
alphabetical by first name, so Amy got her stuff first.
This excited the
critters as they figured Avatar, Amy’s boyfriend, would be next then Big Bunny should
get the huge stocking which had stuff in it for all of them. Well they were
correct and soon all of them were unwrapping play things and food specifically
picked out for each critter or at least for a couple of them, as the bunnies
liked the same stuff!
